Glyn is the Director of Regeneration, Housing & Regulatory Services, Southend-On-Sea City Council, but despite starting his career as a hostel support worker almost 30 years ago, he doesn’t consider himself a housing professional per se. Glyn has spent much of his career in a variety of operational and commissioning roles in charities, the NHS and local government, with a strong focus on working with people whose voices were too often unheard in the provision of public services and who were frequently disempowered as a consequence. He was fortunate to spend a few years working in some relatively grass roots community development roles and still hears echoes of those voices in his work today as he works to further embed real outcomes-driven thinking throughout his work in Southend.
